how to meditate on god’s word

We all try to turn to god when we go through hard times, failures, heart breaks, and so on, which sometimes destroy our faith. During such times, it becomes impossible for us to disconnect from the situation, and focus entirely on god with patience, waiting for his answers. When time gets tough, our mind goes totally haywire, and we not only lose our clarity of thought, but completely feel disconnected from god. However, most of us tend to forget that no problem is bigger than god, and god is a form of absolute love and grace who always responds to our prayers. To successfully meditate on god’s word, we need to awaken god’s qualities within us, which not only re-establish our faith, but also empower us to commune with the great healer, the source of everything. Hopefully, in this war of fear versus love, together we will allow love to rise and rule.
Meditation: The art of losing oneself
There is no denying the fact that we all talk about meditation, however, most of us don’t know how to do so. For most people, meditation means sitting with closed eyes, and focusing hard. But has it really worked? Our thoughts never settle down, but keep us occupied with our fear and worries. In reality, meditation is an art, wherein we lose ourselves and fill our every corner with the love of god. It is like a sleep like activity, wherein we cease to exist in our experience, however, without losing our awareness. When our awareness is no more stuck to our individuality, then we start perceiving the non-physical love of god. However, we would only be willing to lose ourselves, when we start seeing ourselves like a fear driven limitation. Now let us understand that how we remain stuck to a fear driven dimension.
The fearful “I”
To know that how we can meditate on god’s name, we first need to understand the fear driven dimension we live in, because only then would we be willing to let go of ourselves. Love for most of us, has become an emotion, however, love is not an emotion, but a dimension that exists beyond fear. How strange it is, that we all talk about god’s love and propagate ideas like we all should spread love, however, this becomes a superficial activity, because we cannot know love until we are stuck in fear. Yes, our individual physical existence, is totally fear driven, living constantly in fight or flight response.
Yes, we see as the rest of creation, distinct from us, hence perceive others as strangers and as a threat. We feel disconnected from others because of our exclusivity, which leads to fear, insecurity and other negative emotions. We are totally ruled by fear, for example, we feel fear hence we stay away from dangers, we fear living alone hence marry, we fear starving hence work to earn. There is nothing wrong with all this as fear is essential for our survival, however, when we only live in survival mode and do not dare to go beyond, then we remain disconnected from love. This is because, journey towards god begins, when we are willing to go beyond our survival. Now that we have understood that what is meditation and what is fear, now let us get a glimpse of, divine love! (Read: Individuality complex)

Love, hidden beyond “I”
We all propagate that god is love, however, have we ever truly lived it? God’s love, if truth is to be told, is not a human emotion, but a dimension of existence that exists beyond our fear driven physical world. God’s love is a form of massive energy, which is the source of everything: everything sprouts from this dimension, and returns back to it. It is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, because it exists everywhere, and all the time.
When we let go of our limited selves, then we not only lose our negativity, but also experience our communion with the divine. In that dimension, we experience healing, find solutions, get answers to our prayers, because god, is absolute love, and can never ever harm his child. All problems that exist in our life, is all because we live in fear, and when we realize that god only helps, never punishes, then it becomes easy for us to get our focus on god, and away from ourselves. How to do so?
- Sit cross legged with your spine upright in a room where you won’t be disturbed, and close your eyes.
- Breathe deeply in and out, and do so for around 100 breaths, then breathe normal.
- Now, create an image of yourself in your mind, and remind yourself that how this “I-ness” is the source of all your problems.
- Now, see a bright light, shining in your chest area. See that light growing, and finally encapsulating everything.
- Tell yourself that god is love, that exists beyond me, and it can never do wrong to his child ever.
- Just keep focusing on the qualities of god like: love, healer, miracle doer, omnipresent, and so on.
- Remain dissolved in that love for as long as you wish.
Conclusion
Meditating on god’s love, is not a onetime activity, rather it is a way of being wherein we get consumed by the love of divine. This practice must not be limited to a specific time of the day, but can and should be done even with open eyes. When we give our first preference to the lord, then small things like fear, negativity and so on can never even come close to us. However, these are all just small perks of communing with the divine. Most importantly, this allows us to experience our oneness with the creator, and that is when we live the truth: “I and my father are one.”
