To understand this, we need to understand what exactly psychological health is. When we talk about mental health, we are essentially talking about thought and emotion. The way we think is the way we emote and the way we feel. Therefore, mental health means, a person has a complete cover over his mental faculties and is creating a pleasant chemistry within. Let us delve into conscious and compulsive action and its connection with information. Our personality is a collection of information coming from genes, DNA, and sensory information. Our thoughts also sprout from the same information, as we cannot think without data. For most of us, we become identified with information, because without information, who are we? And once our identity has become information, then compulsive thinking becomes inevitable. That is why it is often said that, “I think therefore I’m.” Without information and thinking, we feel that we do not have an identity.

The only way out from compulsive to conscious action is to dis-identify ourselves from information. wherein we reach a space of nothingness, an intelligence unsullied by information. This allows us to experience ourselves beyond information, and beyond thought. We reach a sleep-like meditative state but with fiery awareness.

When we adopt this methodology, then we won’t have just one month devoted for mental health but will be blissful throughout our lives. Having this month, surely proves that we have no control over our faculties, hence came the need to have such a month. However, this process is scary because transitioning from the known space of persona to an unknown terrain is threatening. This is so because we have no control over the unknown, and hence fear it. However, this is a threat not to us, but just to our compulsive persona. To make this transition, we need to understand the compulsiveness of our personality. The reason is, that we only drop something when we see it as a limitation. Only when we experience our existence beyond information, and see our persona as a compulsive trap, would true freedom happen. This is what spirituality is, dropping the physical, so we can taste the non-physical. So, this men’s mental health month, let us work towards operating beyond information, from a conscious space, wherein we regain our power to choose.
